Okada, Nigeria \u2013 In a major effort to enhance emergency response capabilities among healthcare professionals and students, the Save Accident Victims Association of Nigeria (SAVAN) has successfully conducted a hands-on training seminar on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Basic Life Support (BLS), Automated External Defibrillator (AED) usage, and the Heimlich maneuver for choking victims at Igbinedion University Teaching Hospital (IUTH), Okada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The highly impactful training session, hosted at IUTH, was officially declared open by the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Ya\u2019u Abubakar Gagarawa, who led a delegation of principal officers to the event. In his opening remarks, Dr. Gagarawa commended the initiative, emphasizing its critical role in equipping healthcare workers and students with essential life-saving skills to improve patient care and emergency preparedness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The training, which was part of the CMD\u2019s initiative to boost the capacity of healthcare personnel, was facilitated by Prof. Edeaghe Ehikhameno, the Executive Director and Founder of SAVAN, who served as the lead trainer and resource person. Drawing from his vast experience in emergency response and trauma care, Prof. Ehikhameno provided participants with in-depth practical knowledge on CPR techniques, including effective chest compressions, rescue breathing, and the proper use of AEDs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While addressing participants, Prof. Ehikhameno stressed the importance of immediate intervention in cardiac emergencies, noting that timely and effective CPR can significantly improve survival rates before professional medical assistance arrives. He encouraged attendees to apply their newly acquired skills in real-life situations to help save lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The session was highly interactive and engaging, with participants\u2014including hospital staff and students from the College of Nursing Sciences\u2014actively involved in hands-on demonstrations. Many attendees described the seminar as insightful, practical, and invaluable, emphasizing how it has boosted their confidence in handling emergency situations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
